How to Play

Click on squares to reveal what's underneath. Numbers indicate how many mines are adjacent to that square. Flag potential mines with right-click.

Tips & Strategies

• Start by clicking in the middle of the board. This gives you the best chance of opening up a large area.
• Use the numbers to deduce where mines are located. For example, if a cell shows "1", it means exactly one of the eight surrounding cells contains a mine.
• Flag cells that you're certain contain mines. This helps you keep track of where mines are and prevents accidental clicks.
• Use the "chord" technique: When a numbered cell has exactly the right number of flags around it, middle-click (or left+right click) to reveal all unflagged cells around it.
• Look for patterns. Certain configurations of numbers appear frequently and have known safe moves.

• Multiple Difficulty Levels: Choose from Easy (9x9 with 10 mines), Medium (16x16 with 40 mines), or Hard (16x30 with 99 mines).
• First Click Safety: Your first click will never be a mine.
• Flagging: Right-click to flag cells you suspect contain mines.
• Chording: Middle-click on a number to reveal adjacent cells when the correct number of flags are placed.
• Timer: Track how quickly you can clear the minefield.
• Best Times: Your fastest times are saved for each difficulty level.

History of Minesweeper

Minesweeper has its origins in the 1960s and 1970s with mainframe games, but the version most people are familiar with was included with Microsoft Windows starting with Windows 3.1 in 1992. It quickly became one of the most popular computer games of all time due to its simple rules but deep strategic gameplay. The game has been included in various forms in almost every version of Windows since then, and has been reimplemented countless times for other platforms.
